YouTube Launches New AI Tools and Major Partnerships to Boost India’s Creative & Knowledge Economy

According to a recent report by the Oxford Economics, the creative ecosystem of YouTube contributed to the India GDP in the previous fiscal year to over 16,000 crore with over 930,000 full-time equivalent jobs in the country. Gunjan Soni, the Managing Director of the Indian division of YouTube, emphasized the fact that the value of the platform is not limited to the number of views. She has observed that 63 per cent of monetized creators rely on YouTube as their main source of income. To this end, YouTube is also focusing on mechanisms and collaborations that can help creators to build sustainable careers and develop their professional skills.

Furthermore, YouTube is also implementing new artificial intelligence-based functions that will simplify the editing processes, enhance safety measures, and help reach a wider audience.

The government, through the Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Annapurna Devi, embraced the initiatives of YouTube. She highlighted that access to good information and digital literacy is a critical element in empowering the women and children. YouTube will also partner with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) to train the students in the fields of animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality. The initiative encompasses:

The YouTube content strategy of IICT needs to be supported.

According to Vishwas Deoskar, Chief Executive Officer of IICT, the alliance will help students to be exposed to the best tools and resources available in the world and thus will be competitive in creative industry in the world.

  1. Partnership with AIIMS in Strengthening Nursing Education.

YouTube has also collaborated with AIIMS to increase access to professional nursing education. Within the framework of this cooperation, nurses will have the opportunity to obtain the high-quality training modules, including wound care and infection control topics with no cost in India. As a result, the health professionals will be in a better position to deliver quality patient care.

New Artificial Intelligence capabilities to consumers and creators.

YouTube has added a set of AI-improved features:

  • Video Player Conversational AI: The viewers are now able to ask questions directly during the video and get an immediate answer. The feature has already been offered in English, and Hindi will be supported soon.
  • Mindful Viewing Requirements YouTube has increased its First Aid information in Hindi and English, made a daily time restriction on Shorts consumption, and optimized safety options to serve a younger audience.

AI tools for creators: The functionalities that creators will enjoy include:

  • Likeness Detection – that lets creators identify AI-edited videos that falsely portray their likeness and demand a policy alteration.

During the event, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, hailed YouTube in presenting the Indian cultural diversity to the world. He noted that creators act as online ambassadors on how they share local art, local narratives, and heritage sites.
