Do the Indians stand to be the victims of the new green card crackdown by the Trump administration?

Refrence to Hindustan Times. The Trump administration has taken an intensive and rigorous scrutiny of the Green Cards to immigrants of multiple countries of concern, casting doubts on Indian residents of the United States. This is in response to a deadly shooting of an Afghan outside the White House.

The Rationale behind the Announcement of the Crackdown.

USCIS Director Joseph Edlow affirmed that he had instructed a comprehensive, intensive re-examination of all immigrant Green Cards of persons who had entered the country through a specific list of high-risk countries. He did so following the directive by President Donald Trump who ordered the full review of immigration approvals related to these nations.

Edlow stressed that securing America and American people is the top priority of the administration, and that the previous policies of Joe Biden administration were due to careless resettlement policies.

Incident That precipitated the Review.

This announcement was made after Rahmanullah Lakanwal of Afghanistan fired on two National Guard service members outside of the White House.

The attack claimed the life of US Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom (20).

US Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe (24) is still in a critical condition.

In 2021, when the United States launched the evacuation program following the withdrawal of Afghanistan, Lakanwal entered the country. Trump became president when his request to be given asylum was approved.

Will Indians Be Impacted?
Short Answer: No

This Green Card crackdown will not target the Indian residents in the United States.

The USCIS audit directly concerns the immigrants with the 19 high-risk countries, and India is not among the countries.

What are the countries included?

The countries that are being scrutinized include:

Afghanistan, Myanmar, Burundi, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Laos, Libya, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Turkmenistan, Venezuela and Yemen.

These countries are available in the list of the travel restrictions that the government announced earlier this year.

What the New Policy Means

The new USCIS policy enables the authorities to take into account country-specific aspects of security when examining immigration proceedings. Notably, the rule is effective to all applications submitted or still pending as of November 27.

What a Green Card Provides

A permanent residence card or Green Card as is her name is granted to an individual giving them the privilege of residing permanently and permanently working in the United States. Several years later it can be used as a way to citizenship in the U.S. as well.
