Refrence to hindustan times.The three-day Kabir Festival 2025, which will begin on this Friday in the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy, will be a bewildering array of musical, theatre, and arts celebrations in Lucknow. The festival will also include an honourable event to the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg and the legendary film director Guru Dutt thus forming a unique form of musical appreciation coupled with theatrical perfection this year.

There will be a special jam session in the festival led by Rooh Band that will be headed by the vocalist Shresth Verma. Verma added that we are going to sing the song Ya Ali of the movie Gangster (2006) which has become a timeless classic and hits like Jane Kya Chahe Man and Dil Tu Hi Bata. The demise of Zubeen was very tragic and this musical homage is aimed at praising his unmatched talent. Moreover, the band is going to celebrate Guru Dutt on his centenary and will play the songs dedicated to the great director oeuvre.

A spectacular variety of theatre performances will be offered at the festival. On Saturday, there will be a performance of the work Dance Like a Man by Mahesh Dattani, in which Anant Mahadevan, Lillete Dubey, Suchitra Pillai and Joy Sengupta will perform. This play is also directed by Dubey; it has been played over 700 times in five continents. The festival was introduced by a curtain raiser titled Besharam Ka Paudha which was directed by Luckyjee Gupta earlier in the week. The winners of this year Kabir Award are poets Naresh Saxena, Udai Pratap Singh, Weseem Barelvi, actor Anil Rastogi, writer-novelist Sheela Rohekar, and this year, posthumously, Professor Raj Bisaria, who will receive the award through his spouse Kiran Bisaria.
Festival organizer Sangita Jaiswal emphasized the outreach aspect of the festival saying, “Prior to the main event, the festival organizers also held a 10-day curtain raiser with Luckyjee Gupta performing in many schools around Lucknow with a staging of Maa Mujhe Tagore Bana De.
