Refrence To Reuters. Navi Mumbai, November 2, 2025 ,Wait is over! India won their first ever ICC Women World Cup trophy defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a dramatic final at DY Patil stadium. The Indian team, headed by Harmanpreet Kaur made an emotional and historic win that saw years of struggle and disappointment come to an end.
A Redeeming Worth the Memories.
The Indian adventure in the world cup was more of a movie. The team of Kaur had to struggle hard and achieve victory after they suffered three consecutive defeats in the league stage (one of them against South Africa). A record pursuit of the defending champions Australia in the semifinal round secured their right to the final against a dream match in the final between two teams who were pursuing their maiden title.
Shafali Verma The Robbery of the Show.
The last became a master class of the Shafali Verma. Verma was brought in as a replacement with a late injury, and smashed 87 runs on 55 balls, giving India a blistering start. Her bold attitude established the feeling of the innings as India managed to score a competitive 298/7 even though it was lower than a 350-run target.
The genius of Verma did not end there. She took two very important wickets with the ball which shifted the tide towards India when South Africa captain (wolvaardt, Laura) was on the verge of winning the game. Verma was named the Player of the Month and rightly so as she had a complete performance.
Deepti Sharma Conquers the Tournament.
Deepti Sharma made sure that it was a blaze should Verma have lit the spark. The versatile player performed under heavy pressure, thus making 58 runs on a ball, and five wickets at 39 runs. She won the Player of the Tournament award due to her constant superiority as she ended the World Cup with 22 wickets and 215 runs.
Memorable Experiences and Heartbreaking Emotions.
The DY Patil crowd burst when Wolvaardt was dismissed which brought in the crumbling of South Africa at 246 in 46 overs. The tears were not held back because Smriti Mandhana (the most successful run-scorer of the tournament in India) described the feelings of the team:
“It’s still sinking in. I have never been so emotional on a cricket field. Mandhana, who is not crying, said: To be the champions– it is unreal.
She continued that the belief of the team and resolute encouragement of fans had worked to keep them going even during those seasons when they had no sleep or rough times.
Grace in Defeat of South Africa.
South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt was very gracious even following the loss despite the heartbreak.
I would not be more proud of this team. We had a wonderful cricket day, India were really wonderful to-day, she thought.
Wolvaardt was the best scorer in the tournament but she acknowledged that she did not care about her personal achievements as much as the team dreamt of winning the trophy.
Indian Women Cricket a New Era.
The triumph of India is a milestone on the history of women in cricket, and it will give hope to millions of young girls in India. This team has been almost missing out on a title and breaking hearts throughout the years but now they have made it happen and in the most amazing way possible.
The Indian women have not only won a World Cup, they have made it with tears of ecstasy in their eyes holding the trophy in their hands and rewriting the story of Indian cricket forever.
