Jemimah Rodrigues Century Leads India to World Cup Final

A Night to Remember in DY Patil Stadium.

Reference to Espn. India Women history was made by pursuing a record 339-run target in the Navi Mumbai lights against the defending champions, Australia. The hosts had nine spare balls and they had ensured a five-wicket victory that will live to be remembered as one of the greatest moments in the history of women in cricket. Jemimah Rodrigues performed a masterclass and the crowd at DY Patil was wildly applauding her as she was unbeaten and scored 127 on 134 balls, thus being awarded the Player of the Match award.

Rodrigues’ Redemption Story

This was no ordinary knock to Jemimah Rodrigues, but redemption. She was sacked in the last World Cup and came back with a fighting spirit and style. Emotionally, she confessed on the post-match tour that she almost cried every day of the tour. Fighting anxiety and self-doubt, Rodrigues managed to draw her strength with the help of faith, quoting that, Stand still, and God will fight on your side.

She was not even convinced that she would bat at No. 3 till five minutes before coming in. Rodrigues made strength a beat, however, when on the crease. Her composure, perfect timing, and constant focus helped India to go through the times of pressure. The pairing came in handy with the support of Harmanpreet Kaur who once again proved herself to the occasion against Australia.

Harmanpreet is a Leader with a Heart and Tactics.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur described the mood of the team in a word this time we crossed the line we have been pursuing all the years. She pointed out the fact that India has concentrated on learning the lesson of the past to become successful. The team had talked about implementing their plan early and finishing well a plan that would prove to be handsomely rewarded.

She complimented the calmness of Rodrigues, and said, she was always calculating, always thinking. We trusted her completely.” Harmanpreet also attributed the exhibition crowd as the source of energy and power of the team as a win to all the fans who had faith in them.

Australia Left Searching Answers.

Captain Alyssa Healy of Australia did not take defeat poorly given that her team dropped at crucial times. And we did not do well with the bat or field. India had stood their ground so brilliantly, she admitted. Although Phoebe Litchfield opened well with a fantastic century, the collapse of the Australians in the end and the dropped catches were expensive.

Healy also did point to the fact that the next World Cup cycle is going to make a difference: I will not be there next cycle, but I am looking forward to seeing the next generation grow. Her fairness and the sportsmanship were an indication of the respect in the two mighty clubs.

India’s Road to Glory

This will be an exciting victory as India will now be in the ICC Womens World Cup Final, only a single victory will make theirs the first championship ever. Starting with the premature rejection of Shafali Verma, to a tranquil conclusion of Rodrigues, all the stages of the pursuit were a narrative of faith, unity and bravery.

With the crowd at the DY Patil singing together, one thing was obvious, this was not a win, this was a statement. India did not only defeat Australia ,they overcame the pressures, scepticism and even history itself.
