Refernce to Times of India. The Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has encouraged India to be ready to wage war any time, anywhere and that the security environment of the country can evolve anytime, anywhere. He mentioned the four-day battle against the Pakistan in May, saying that the episode was a good reminder of the uncertainty of the contemporary warfare.
Operation Sindoor: Lesson in Preparedness.
In his address to the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) Annual Session 2025, Singh told how Operation Sindoor (May 7-10) was one of the pivotal moments in defence preparedness in India. He said that this operation is a case study that we should learn and build our security framework.
He cautioned that this operation had left us in a position whereby war was knocking at our door. Although the response of the Indian Armed Forces was rapid and decisive, Singh still stressed that there is a need to continue doing the introspection and be ready to protect the national interests.
Indigenous Defence Systems Pay off.
Pointing out the achievement of the locally developed military technology in India, Singh observed how the local systems such as the Akash missile, BrahMos, and AkashTeer Air Defence Control System proved to be remarkably successful in the war. These exercises demonstrated that the native Indian ability is willing to take on actual battle scenarios, he said.
Not only the armed force but also the warriors of industry of the country, the engineers, innovators, and manufacturers, were credited by him as a part of the victory. He has added that the Indian defence industry is currently an important component of national security, alongside the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Increase in Increase in Indigenous Production and Defence Exports.
Reinforcing the point of self reliance in defence manufacturing by the government, Singh disclosed that India has progressed in defence production to 1.51 lakh crore today out of a 46,000 crore in 2014 and the contribution by the private sector was 33,000 crore.
Another point he brought to the fore was an increase in defence exports which were less than 1,000 crore a decade ago and now stand at 24,000 crore in 2025 and would reach 30,000 crore by March 2026.
Our Soil, Our Shield: How to create an eco-system which is self-sufficient.
Singh restated the idea that India has to aim not just to put together imported components. He said that our mission was to create an entire manufacturing ecosystem that would enable the local industries, but technology transfer must be used as a means of creating long-term capabilities.
He commended the efforts like the Quantum Mission, Atal Innovation Mission and the National Research Foundation for developing innovation and research and development culture within the defence sector.
He called on Indian industries to work on the production of subsystems and components in the country, saying, we must make our soil our shield -first Indian line of defence.
An Appeal to Unremitting Watchfulness in Time of World perplexities.
Sounding an early warning about the increased instability in the entire world, Rajnath Singh observed that the world order that has existed is deteriorating and there are new centers of conflicts forming. He urged an unending review of the India security strategy to stay in readiness to any war like scenario which could occur in an erratic international world.
