Toll Workers Agra-Lucknow Expressway Low Diwali Bonus Protest.

The Toll Staff Fatehabad Allow 5,000 Vehicles to Pass in Free-of-charge Surprise Protest.

Reference to On Monday, toll workers at the Fatehabad post on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway suddenly went on strike, letting thousands of vehicles pass through without charging any toll fee.

. The protest arose following a meager Diwali bonus, which the employees complained about due to which normal operations broke down temporarily and led to a road rage on the highway.

Unplanned Toll Gate Protest Prompting Low Bonus.

According to reports from 21 workers, those at the Fatehabad toll post—managed by Shri Sign and Datar—received only a ₹1,100 Diwali bonus. Feeling underappreciated and unfairly rewarded, the workers decided to open all the gates and let commuters pass freely.

This abrupt move had a direct effect on the toll collection and it caused confusion to motorists plying along this important route between Agra and Lucknow.

Disruption of Toll Affects thousands of Commuters.

The demonstration enabled at least 5,000 cars to pass through without paying a single cent in the form of toll fees and this was quite a big loss to the firm. Authorities first tried to bring in employees from nearby booths to resume operations, but the protesting workers blocked their way, worsening the situation. The highway—one of Uttar Pradesh’s key routes connecting Delhi and the National Capital Region—soon turned chaotic, as commuters took advantage of the free passage.

Intervening by Police and Company.

On receiving the information about the situation that was taking place, police arrived at the Fatehabad doll post. They also tried to act as a mediator between the corporate leaders and the striking employees in order to be able to normalize operations. At the same time, the company promised the employees a 10 percent salary increase and improved working conditions to this effect.

One of the protestors informed NDTV, I have worked here more than a year, and we have not taken any bonus. We strive and still our pay is frequently late. The company threatened to replace us without even listening to our concerns.

Protest Ends After 10 Hours

The demonstration that started late at night on Sunday lasted about ten hours. It was terminated only when the company was willing to refine the working conditions and hike the promised salary increase. The accident reinforces the current problem of labor and it is important to pay employees decently particularly during festivals.

What This Incident Shows

Various valuable lessons can be learned by this protest: when paid and working conditions are not good enough, employees may strike; temporary disorder on major highways is possible when people are not heard; and even a small protest will impact thousands of commuters in addition to reminding people about labor rights. It also reminds the firms not to forget their bonuses especially during festival periods such as Diwali.
