New Delhi, 16 th October 2025- The ministry of defence has just awarded a contract of 659.47 crores to supply the Indian Army with a state of the art Night Sights (image intensifiers) to its SIG 716 assault rifles. It is a massive acquisition that will considerably improve hate-night visibility of the soldiers in addition to improving the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat of defence technology in India.

Increased Night Vision in 500- Metre manoeuvres.

By having this new equipment, which is the Night Sights, the soldiers will be positioned to be capable of shooting the target within a range of up to 500 metres and still be able to strike his target even in the presence of the stars. It is an upgrading that gives more accuracy, believability and reliability to the night operations. It is also a massive enhancement to the already in use Passive Night Sights (PNS) that the forces already have.

These hi-tech accessories will enable the soldiers to capitalize on the greater range of the SIG 716 rifle that will put them at tactical advantage in the dark battlefield.

Expansions in Make in India and Defence Self- Reliance.

The procurement that deals with the domestic design, development and manufacturing is called the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category. It is a project that has more than 51 percent indigenous content that it has made it a steady project with the present self reliance of India in the production of defence equipment.

The contract will result in the development of a domestic defence production, enhance the supply chains, and provide new opportunities to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to manufacture components and raw materials as per the estimates of the Defence Ministry.

Contract Information and Industrial Cooperation.

It was entered into as a contract on 15 th October, 2025 and a consortium headed by M/s MKU Ltd and M/s Medbit Technologies Pvt Ltd. The partnership will be focussed on the implementation of the finest optical technology and indigenous innovation to the demands of the Indian Army towards the amplified operations.

Introduction of such Night Sights as the officials intend will not only render the missions more efficient, but will also enhance the capacity of India to manufacture the finest defence systems domestically.

Making the National Security nationalized with the state-of-the-art equipments.

Having high-performance Night Sights fitted with SIG 716 rifles, India has been and still improving its infantry and availing them better equipped on the ground. The project will enable soldiers to work better during the night time, achieve high quality surveillance and accuracy of attack.

It is an indicator that India is ready to equip its military not only with the modern equipment but also the home-grown defence equipment so that it can be at the leading edge of its maneuvers without having to increase its reliance on international imports.
