Reference to FirstFt. Nvidia chief executive, Jensen Huang, made a confident statement, which is that China will emerge the winner in the world in the race of artificial intelligence. In his talk at the Financial Times Future of artificial intelligence Summit, Mr. Huang claimed that the west was losing ground due to over regulation and the increasing cynicism.
China’s Advantage in AI
Mr. Huang has said in the most cutting comments to the Financial Times, China will win the AI race. He clarified that, even as the United States and the United Kingdom are still arguing over the subject matter of AI ethics and regulation, China is moving faster with its mass-scale application and state-sponsored intervention.
Mr. Huang warned that divided laws in the United States where states make their individual laws may choke innovation. He said it would get us twenty-five new AI rules — not progress.
Technology ban escalates the competition between US and China.
The statements of Mr. Huang occur days after the Trump administration supported the ban on Nvidia, according to which it was not allowed to sell its most intelligent chips to China. The action was a response to a meeting between President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping that strengthens the current technological enmity between the two superpowers.
In the meantime, China has been expanding energy subsidies of large data centres run by ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent to make high power AI training cheaper. In China, there is a free hand of power, said Mr. Huang, which implies that such a policy grants the Chinese technology giants a considerable competitive edge.
The Bigger Picture
As the chipmaker that is already the most valuable in the world, Nvidia is at the center of the AI revolution. However, Mr. Huang still believes that the main factor of innovation is freedom and speed instead of fear and restraint. He said we should be open-minded and not afraid in case we want to be the leaders in AI.
These statements highlight a further cleavage: the West struggles with regulatory issues, but China is rapidly building its AI infrastructure scale, as never before, in areas such as energy policy, chip design, and deployment of large-language models.
