Delhi Red Fort Blast: Nine Dead, Over 20 Injured as Investigators Explore Terror Links

Reference to Ndtv powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening has killed nine people and wounded more than 20 others in a shocking event. The blast occurred inside the hyundai i20 car at 6:52 p.m. near Red Fort Metro Station, ripping through the busy area and damaging several vehicles. Authorities have put the national capital on high alert and the Delhi Police have invoked the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) after several pieces of early evidence indicated a possible terror link.

Blast Linked to Terror Module Spanning Across States

Officials confirmed that the blast could be linked to a wider terror module across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The incident came just hours after Jammu and Kashmir Police discovered nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosives from two residential houses in Faridabad. Investigators found 350 kilograms of ammonium nitrate often used in fertilizers and easily used to make explosives in the killing.

The recovery of the explosives took place as a result of a tip from a J&K-based doctor recently arrested, Dr. Adil Rather. In addition to Dr. Rather, two other doctors, Muzammil Shakeel,

Muzammil Shakeel and Umar Mohammad are being looked into in relation to the incident. Umar is suspected of owning and operating the car that detonated, leading to tests being carried out for DNA recovery from the charred remains.

Delhi Police Explore Suicide Attack Possibility

According to non officials, Umar may have detonated the car after panicking, as his associates, Rather and Shakeel had been arrested. A detonator was reported to have been placed in the car, and ammonium nitrate like that found in Faridabad is believed to have been used in the detonated car. His mother and two brothers have subsequently been arrested and are being questioned as investigators continue their probes.

Security Enhanced; Red Fort Closed

In light of the occurrence, the government ordered the closure of the Red Fort from November 11 to 13. The Lal Qila Metro station has been closed too for security reasons. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Delhi police, the intelligence bureau, and the NIA to review the situation.

Government officials reiterate, “any act of terror will be treated as an act of war against India,” and Operation Sindoor,, counter-terror mission, is nonetheless in full action.

Victims and their families cry

 One of the dead was Ashok Kumar, a Delhi Transport Corporation conductor who lived with his family of eight in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district. He was on his way to visit a relative at the time of the explosion. His death has shocked his family and neighborhood. Families of the victims gathered outside LNJP Hospital searching for loved ones who were missing.

LNJP Hospital, AIIMS Trauma Center, and Delhi Police have issued helpline numbers. As the investigation continues, Delhi stands together in sadness and with resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.
