There is Record-Breaking Oath: Nine Lives and Still Counting by Nitish Kumar.

Refrence to mint. Nitish Kumar will become the Chief Minister of Bihar taking the oath of office ten times, making him the first Chief Minister to take the oath of office ten times in India. Although his rule has spanned many years in his time of governance, his rule had under normal circumstances that of a normal political figure, he should have only made five oaths. His political career however has never been a straight line.

A Political Career that is Characterised by Constant Fluctuations.

The first term of Kumar started in 2000, although this was prematurely ended to seven days because of failure to get a legislative majority. He then came back to power after the 2005 and 2010 assembly elections where National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formed the government in Bihar.

However, Kumar resigned later in 2014 when the Janata Dal (United) performed poorly in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as did the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), despite it contesting elections on its own.

Re-alignments Frequently, Oaths Frequently.

However, in 2015, Kumar returned to the chief ministerial office making him sworn in a fourth time ahead of state elections of the same year. He swore an oath once more after the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, as the leader of JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance, and thereafter as the leader of NDA.

The political realignments also made three more oath ceremonies to the tally. In 2017 he re-joined the NDA, changed allegiance to the RJDled alliance in 2022 and returned to the NDA again in 2024 on each occasion taking an oath of office.

Where Nitish Resides in CM Hierarchy of India.

Nitish Kumar is not the longest serving Chief Minister in India, despite holding the oath the record number of times. He is the eighth on the all-time list in terms of his days in office cumulatively having served for 7,023 days.

In case he serves the remaining days of his current term 1,845 more days, he would be ranked as third second only to Pawan Kumar Chamling of Sikkim and Naveen Patnaik of Odisha. It is also worth noting that Kumar has also interacted with fourteen governors in his tenure being ranked third among the Chief Ministers who had served under the highest number of governors.

A Uniform Political Career.

Due to his constant alliances, reshuffles, and opportune political moves, Nitish Kumar has been able to develop a career, which no other Indian politician had. In addition, his ability to become a member of power multiple times, in spite of radical political changes, shows his impact and flexibility in the constantly changing environment of Bihar.
