NIA Broadens Investigation of Deadly Explosion at Red Fort.
Refrence to Reuters. On Thursday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India said that it has detained four other suspects including three medical professionals in relation to the destructive car blast that took place in Delhi last week. On 10 November, the explosion that took place close to the legendary Red Fort caused the deaths of ten people and injured thirty-two others, making it the inaugural large-scale terrorist incident in the capital in more than ten years. The incident has brought about security issues as to the lack of security in one of the most well-guarded areas of the country.
Major Suspects Captured by Law Enforcement.
According to a detailed statement, the NIA has found the recent arrests to include Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai, Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay and Dr. Shaheen Saeed who were all residents of Jammu & Kashmir and Dr. Shaheen Saeed who is of Lucknow origin. The agency claims that all of the four were influential in the planning or facilitation of the attack but the investigators have not revealed the exact details of their alleged involvement. Their arrests were after a few days of interrogations and organized follow ups in various cities.
Past Detentions and Family Response.
Ganai, Rather and Wagay were also previously detained in Jammu & Kashmir after being accused by the police of having ties with Pakistan-based militant groups Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. Their families, on the other hand, were very opposed to these accusations as they insisted that the men were not linked to extremist groups. Nevertheless, the NIA continued with its investigation despite these rejections on grounds that it had new evidence and intelligence indicating that there was a level of deeper involvement.
There are two others already in custody.
Besides the arrests made recently, two other suspects had been arrested earlier in the week by the NIA.
The vehicle under which the blast had occurred was registered under Amir Rashid Ali.
Jasir Bilal Wani, allegedly one of the technical supporters of the suicide bomber Dr. Umar Un Nabi.
The fact that they are apprehensive shows that a network was involved in the attack, which the agency is currently trying to uncover completely. Since the investigation is underway, the police are trying to establish each member of the operation, especially since such a high-profile attack in a secured area highlights the importance of the urgent need to make the vigilance and preventive intelligence more active.
