The after and ceremonial event became a fiasco when the live TV broadcast was interrupted after Pakistan had already acquired their medals as runners up. Simon Doull, the presenter of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) later read a short statement to the effect that India was not to participate in award presentation.
Then why not India say yes to the trophy? The chief of IT cell of BJP, Amit Malviya, was asked as to why so on X (previously twitter). As he claimed, the players declined due to the insistence of the ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the same who heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and is an Interior Minister of Pakistan, to deliver the prize by hand.
India declined to receive the Asia Cup and medals as Naqvi, a senior government official of Pakistan and PCB, wished to hand them over. He has been a long time a mouthpiece of a terror-driven state. We did not only beat Pakistan on the field, we also demonstrated to Naqvi where to keep off the field, wrote Malviya.
The last itself was a thriller. India won the final over to take 147 and the crowd in Dubai went into a mad frenzy. The festivities were marred by tension throughout and at the end of the match. It has been reported that the presentation took almost an hour longer than the scheduled time because the Pakistan players did not want to leave their dressing room after the loss.
Competition during the tournament was very stiff. Since the very first match, Indian players did not want to shake hands with or interact well with their Pakistani opponents. Even prior to the final, skipper Suryakumar Yadav skipped the trophy photoshoot and Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha found himself posing alone with the cup.
