Putin Confirms Visit to India, Looks Forward to Meeting 'Dear Friend' PM Modi

Deepening Strategic & Economic Cooperation

In a recent media briefing, President Putin said, “I am looking forward to my trip in early December and to meeting my dear friend, our reliable partner, Prime Minister Modi.” The visit is part of the annual India-Russia summit that is to alternate between New Delhi and Moscow in the alternate year.

The discussions will focus on energy collaboration, defence partnerships, and new trade frameworks.These initiatives will help the two nations to counter trade pressures in the world, and grow their strategic cooperation.

Putin Says India Will Resist US Pressure”

When asked about India’s continued oil trade with Russia despite the western sanctions, Putin saluted New Delhi’s independent foreign policy. He stressed that India bases its decisions on national interests and energy security priorities.

“Is India going to leave its energy resources?” asks the question. If it does, it could lose about $9 – 10 billion. If it refuses, sanctions will still apply and the losses are the same. “So why refuse when there are also domestic political costs?”, he asked.
