Reference to Hindustan Times. An ugly video has been spreading in the state of Karnataka and the son of BJP chief Vijugouda Patil is caught in camera beating the toll booth operator and his cronies. The battle was held in the highway of Vijayapura Kalaburagi, at Kannoli Toll Plaza, on Thursday. The CCTV cameras were also present in the toll plaza which was capable of capturing the whole incident and the footage is currently circulating in the social media.

The Toll Plaza Confrontation.

According to the police report issued at first, Samarthgouda Patil and his friends had already been on their way to leave Vijayapura and go to Sindagi when they were halted at the toll gate. The employees asked them to remit the toll in a normal manner. But instead, Samarthgouda screamed, Who I am? I am a son of the BJP leader Vijugouda Patil!

The rude tone not having caused the toll operator to stop, so supposedly answered, Which Vijugouda?–a saying which appeared to incite the company to rage. The case took an alternative turn and the CCTV photos show Samarthgouda and his companions harassing the toll collector and beating him up. The video also captures one of the employees who tried to calm the group and the rest of the employees are rushing to stop the fight.

Nonetheless, other toll workers showed up in time and could eliminate the entire situation before it would have escalated even further. The group is reported to have been under the influence of alcohol which has not been proved by the authorities.

Toll Worker With Still Injury Assaulted at Hospital.

One of the employees that experienced injuries during the scuffle was Sangappa. He got immediately hospitalized at Sindagi Taluk Hospital. Doctors stated that his injuries were minor but the physical and mental trauma as a result of the attack was evident.

The video of the incident rapidly spread on X (it was called so, Twitter) Instagram, and other platforms, people on them condemned the actions and demanded the introduction of serious measures. The majority of viewers affirmed that they were angry since they noted that the attack was highhanded, arrogant, and abusive of power among the family members of political leaders.

Video Surveillance by Police, Awaiting Grievance.

The police officials have confirmed to have verified that the CCTV footage is genuine and they are carrying out a preliminary investigation on Friday. The personnel in the toll plaza have as yet, not lodged any complaint.

The authorities further added that when someone launches a complaint, the police will initiate a case and convict the individuals. Meanwhile, the toll management company is reported to be going through the internal surveillance and security to prevent such instances in the future.

The video has provoked much outrage in the social media. Citizens, influencers and activists are calling to be held accountable and to have justice. Several users have castigated the highest BJP leadership and they are demanding the family members and the much concerned son to be disciplined.

It has not been left out as netizens have been lamenting over the way such individuals get away with political ties and how the law enforcers and the general citizens are affected. Many authorities compared it to the previous instances when the family members of politicians were accused of these acts but were not actually punished.

In response, the local opposition leaders condemned the act on the basis of it being a disgraceful display of power abuse which is not boding well with the ethics of good governance. They urged the BJP leadership to proceed immediately in order to keep people faith in the values of the party.

People Are Getting Angry, But Police Say Nothing

It is also a fact that the BJP leadership is still silent other than the law enforcement authorities and this has only helped to make the people more furious. The video is being circulated in the hashtags like JusticeForTollWorker and BJPLeadersSon where the users of the internet are calling out to the transparency in the investigation.

The Vijayapura Police is under pressure to take a sui motu action despite the fact that the FIR has not been registered yet. It has been pointed out by legal scholars that a case could be prosecuted on the assault and public misconduct charges through evidence based on a video.

This episode too is enlightened by the virus on the growing anger of the ordinary citizens concerning the abuse of power by political officials. The question will be left until the formal action is taken, will justice be served or will another feast of power playing be indulged?
