Hollywood actor Salman Khan has been involved in a legal tussle after a consumer court in Kota gave him a notice in regard to allegedly false advertisements of a brand of pan masala. The complaint is that the actor and the company he represents are carrying out false claims as part of their marketing efforts.

Salman Khan and Rajshree Brand Stated to have Complained.

It was a case, filed by one of the senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Inder Mohan Singh Honey, who was also an advocate of the Rajasthan High Court. He claimed that the brand Rajshree, promoted by Salman Khan, misled the consumers with some false claims.

The product, according to Honey, is said in the advertisements as being saffron-infused cardamom and saffron-infused pan masala. He argued that these are false claims because saffron which costs almost 4 lakh per kilogram could not possibly be a component in a product with a price of just 5 lakh.

He also said that these kinds of advertisements make young people consume the pan masala that is associated with mouth and oral cancers. The petitioner further highlighted on the fact that celebrities ought to avoid promoting harmful products, which in other countries, film stars do not even advertise cold drinks, but in this case, they advertise tobacco and pan masala.

Court Notice and Next Hearing.

After the complaint, the Kota Consumer Court sent notices to actor and the manufacturing company asking them to provide official responses. The case will next be heard on 27 November.

Salman khan is the brand ambassador of Rajshree Elaichi that also manufactures pan masala. Nonetheless, he has also not featured in advertisements of the pan masala product, but only of the elaichi version, according to reports.
