NSE Session Wrap: Index Movers, Breadth and What Held the Floor
The benchmark ended the session marginally changed, but breadth told a different story: declines outnumbered advances through most of the day, with the index held up by a narrow set of heavyweights.
Reading breadth
When an index holds while the advance-decline line deteriorates, participation is narrowing. That is not automatically bearish, but it does mean the index level is a poor proxy for how a diversified portfolio actually performed.
The session in three lines
- Heavyweight financials and IT did the lifting.
- Mid- and small-caps underperformed the benchmark.
- Volumes were below the recent average — conviction was thin.
