Punjab University Election 2026: ABVP candidate Ankit Bhidan defeats Adil Brar to become the new President of the Punjab University Campus Students’ Council

The Punjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) election has delivered a significant victory for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), with its candidate Ankit Bhidan elected as the new President of the students’ council.
Bhidan secured 3,149 votes, defeating his closest rival Adil Brar, who polled 2,637 votes. The ABVP candidate won the presidential contest by a margin of 512 votes.
The results for the 2026-27 academic session were announced on Monday, bringing an end to a closely watched student election at Punjab University.
Ankit Bhidan Emerges Victorious
The presidential contest witnessed a competitive four-cornered battle. Ankit Bhidan emerged on top with 3,149 votes, followed by Adil Brar with 2,637 votes. Gurman Singh Sidhu received 2,263 votes, while Darshpreet Singh secured 1,387 votes.
Bhidan’s victory gives ABVP control of the PUCSC presidency and marks an important moment for student politics at the university.
New PUCSC Team Takes Shape
Along with the presidential post, elections were also held for the Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary positions.
The newly elected office-bearers are:
President: Ankit Bhidan — ABVP
Vice President: Armaan Singh Bhinder
Secretary: Dhyan Singh (Sameer)
Joint Secretary: Vishal Bamal
Armaan Singh Bhinder secured 3,322 votes for the Vice President post, while Dhyan Singh won the Secretary position with 4,045 votes. Vishal Bamal emerged victorious for Joint Secretary with 3,506 votes.
Gen Z Participation in Focus
This year’s PU election attracted considerable attention because of strong participation from young voters, particularly students from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
The election campaign also saw political debate around the Jantar Mantar protest, while campus-specific concerns remained central to the contest. Issues including hostel facilities, fee increases, research scholars’ concerns and campus security featured prominently during the campaign.
Why the PU Result Matters
Punjab University is home to students from across Punjab and neighbouring states, making its student elections an important indicator of youth political sentiment in the region.
